Special Delivery

Geared to Kindergarten and First Grade Students.  The teacher will print the Special Delivery Documents.  Envelopes with each rhythm should be prepared for each student.  The teacher will distribute an envelope to each student.  The teacher will clap a rhythm.  Students will find the rhythm in their Special Delivery Envelope.

Learning the Staff- Beanbag Toss

Using a staff floor carpet (or use painters tape to draw a staff on the floor) line students up at the bottom of the staff.  Hand each student a bean bag and allow them to toss the bean bag onto the staff.  Students will identify the note on the staff.  Correct answers earn a point.

Note Name Bingo

Students will cut out the Note Name squares on the top of the paper.  The Note Name Squares will then be glued to the Bingo board on the bottom of the paper.  The teacher will call out note names and students will identify the note and cover it on their bingo sheet.  Students may be allowed to make their own Bingo boards each music class, or the teacher may elect to retain the Bingo boards for use with other classes.

Solfege

Melody Bingo

Students can practice their sight reading skills, note reading skills, or listening skills with this Melody Bingo board.  Students will cut out the Melody Excerpts squares on the top of the paper.  The Melody Excerpts  Squares will then be glued to the Bingo board on the bottom of the paper.  The teacher will may 1) play the melody and have students identify the melody 2) sing the melody and have students identify. Students will identify the note and cover it on their bingo sheet.  After a student has earned a Bingo, the teacher may ask that student to sing the covered squares. Students may be allowed to make their own Bingo boards each music class, or the teacher may elect to retain the Bingo boards for use with other classes.

Melody Baseball

Students can practice their sight reading skills, note reading skills, or listening skills with this Melody Bingo board.  The teacher will divide the class into two teams.  Students will roll a die to reveal the value of the question.  1-1 base, 2 -2 bases, 3 -3 bases, 4- Homerun, 5-Strike Out, 6- Strike Out.  The teacher will then display a Melody Card.  The teacher may 1) ask students to sing the card 2)ask students to show the solfege hand motions for the card 3) play the example with one wrong note; the student must identify the wrong note 4) ask students a question about the card...How does the melody move?  Does the melody have any repeating notes? etc.

Instruments

Saxophone Mix Up

Students will learn information about the saxophone with the Saxophone Mix Up Game.  The teacher will print the document and cut out each fact/question about the saxophone.  The teacher will distribute the slips to the students.  Students will find the student with that has the matching symbol.  Pairs of students will come to the front of the room to read their question and answer to the class.  Students may then complete the Saxophone Facts worksheet as individuals.

Looking for a quick and easy way to see if your students know their Instrument Families?  Try this Coloring Asessment!  Students color squares containing the names of instruments.  If they follow the directions correctly, a unique number will be revealed (4- the number of instrument families!)
